The Awareness of HIV/AIDS has been on for quite a while, particularly about the importance of voluntary screening for those who are exposed to the risk factors of HIV/AIDS but it seems young people are still reluctant to appreciate this message of caution. In an interview with Chinwe, a 27year old graduate and civil servant, she narrated to Pharma-Guide Nigeria how she discovered she was HIV positive. According to her, after watching a TV documentary about the importance of routine screening and the great benefits of early detection and treatment if one is positive, she voluntarily subjected herself for screening and to her greatest surprise, she was tested positive. What seemed like a fairy tale became reality as confirmatory test proved she was indeed positive. We realize that the lack of knowledge about the disease pattern continues to challenge efforts daily made to check the spread of this disease. Ignorance has led to stigmatization against infected persons and worst still, self-stigmatization has led to poor compliance to medications and hence an increase in mortality. DICLOFENICLE VS DICLOFENAC – X-raying the Importance of proper writing, spelling and pronunciation of Drug names… Madam, did the Doctor write out any drug for you to buy? I asked, as I assessed the medication profile of one of my patients at a female surgical and Orthopaedic ward. She quickly replied, Yes O! Diclo-fe-ni-cle!!! I have sent my sister to buy it for me?  Nooo Ma! I replied politely with a smile, It is Di-clo-fe-nac and not Di-clo-fe-nicle. There is an antibiotic called Chloramphenicol and it is different from the analgesic Diclofenac . If she tells them Di-clo-fe-nicle, a careless dispenser who may not be a Pharmacist may issue out the wrong drug and this can lead to treatment failure as well as adverse effects.
